Rick Brinkley’s Parents Violated Campaign Contribution Rules!!

Came across some interesting information, while checking campaign donation records, this week.

According to the Oklahoma Ethics Commission website

13. What are the maximum contribution limits?

A family may give a maximum of $5,000 to a state candidate committee for an entire campaign and $5,000 annually to a person, committee or party supporting or opposing candidates. A family is defined as an individual, his or her spouse, if any, and all children under the age of eighteen (18) years residing in the same household. Corporations and labor organizations are prohibited from contributing to any committee supporting or opposing candidates. Other business entities, without corporations as owners, may contribute if they have no corporate owners, but the percentage ownership amount of the contribution is applied to the owner’s family limit. Under the Rules, a political party may give up to $50,000 to its gubernatorial candidate and up to $25,000 to any other statewide candidate; however, statutes set the limit from a party at $5,000. Exceeding this amount would constitute a criminal violation. There are no limits on contributions from a person, corporation, or labor organization to committees supporting or opposing ballot measures.

However, Mr. Brinkley’s parents, Don and Carolyn Brinkley, each gave a contribution of $5000 to his campaign, for a total of $10000. This is a clear violation of the Campaign Finance laws of Oklahoma.

Rick Brinkley Donations Record

When contacted, the ethics commission said that this isn’t a “big enough” race for them to bother doing anything about it. I find that response appalling! I’m not sure what else can be done about this, except for Oklahoma Republicans to stand up on July 27th, and vote for RINO Rick. Brinkley’s opponent, Tim Coager, for Oklahoma Senate District 34.

  1. well written blog. Im glad that I could find more info on this. thanks

  2. Listening to Pat Campbell’s show this morning on KFAQ, both Brickley and Coager were both on the show at the same time. They both explained their views of each other what their goals.

Brickley explained that yes, his parents gave him $10,000 because they were misinformed. Once they and Brickley realized that they can only give $5,000, Brickley cut a check back to his parents fro $5,000.

    Honest mistakes happen.

If this was a repeat offense… sure prosecute or deny him running, whatever.

    God bless,
    Johnathan

    • They were not misinformed. They tried to slide one through, and got caught. That is why he cut the check back to them.

      • Any proof of that?

      • The amount of time it took him to return the money is what gives me that impression. The truth is, I found this, and ran with it, because it smelled bad! if he’s telling the truth, then so be it. There are worse things in his closet. Like promoting gay marriages when he was the producer of the Sally Jesse Raphael Show in the 90s.

      • He actually spoke about that as well on PC since Tim brought it up.

Brinkley informed that it was a mistake and that it was a long time ago.

Those statements impress on me that it was a one time thing as opposed to increasingly enforce it. Since he hasn’t shown that he otherwise enforces it, that should be taken into account.

I wish I could re-listen to the show as to quote him though.

Just because someone does something one time in their life, doesn’t mean they support it. Continuing support through their life is a different story.

      • Rick’s response pertaining to the ‘gay marriage’ on Sally Jesse Ralphael:

“LOL…that’s the funny part…there was NEVER a gay marriage. The wedding was between a STRAIGHT man and woman. Apparently, they just decided they could change the facts.”
